Folklore, Food & Fairytales

@FairytalesFood@mstdn.social
mastodon 4.5.6

A storytelling podcast featuring stories & folklore with connected recipes & food history. Honouring the stories despite how tenuous the link to the recipe becomes.

I’m Rachel: a part-time storyteller, fascinated & sometimes alarmed by vintage cookbooks. I enjoy traveling the world & through time via the medium of food & stories. I love history, folklore, stories, cheese, cocktails & cats (not necessarily in that order). I’m on a never-ending mission to find the magic in the spaces between.

It’s too late in the day really to share my latest letter From Marmalade to Butter’d Bread via Joy, Gratitude, Quince, Diagrams, Murder, 007 & Two Famous Bears. It is at least Valentines free. I haven’t even discussed the ‘restorative’ marmalades. Read for free: https://dub.sh/marmalade-bread

@raymccarthy@historians.social 😋 Don’t worry I have a real one in the fridge for later alongside what is possibly the worlds smallest swede and lots of potatoes for very buttery mash. We have a selection of whiskies from across the country to toast with.

Calling Witches, Pagans & Folklorists

Would you be willing to take part in a conversation for my podcast A Question of Death about Silent Supper rituals and contacting ancestors?

Recordings would be via zoom, audio only released and I’d be happy to send a preview plus promote your work via show notes etc.

Contact via link below or aquestionofdeath at gmail dot com to chat if you think you might find this interesting - no commitment

I’ve been trying to decide whether to link to storyteller interviews I did about food & stories & how they can heal communities but it feels like promoting myself too much. I also know that the people at the heart of these riots don’t want to find ways to live together, they want destruction & to rip communities apart. Hopefully they will soon be dealt with & the time for healing food & stories will come.

So in the interests of positive thinking & in case they can help:

The problem with imposter syndrome, especially in the arts is that you might just be rubbish and you don’t know …..

Christmas Eve breakfast of champions. Excellent fuel for various festive tasks ahead including making horseradish sauce with an actual horseradish root, frying latkes, sending a last Christmas letter & fighting a king size duvet cover. I wish everyone a hopeful, peaceful & restorative festive break in whatever shape that makes you happy! I know that for some it’s not a great time, but I hope you can find something in the chaos or the silence that brings you some joy or at least some solace xxx
